When you talked about Heston being a strange hero, since he is so unlikeable, it was like a revelation. Yes, when I think about it I feel exactly the same. But even with Ben Hur. Thinking about this I realised this was probably the thing with Ben Hur, that always disturbed be, but where I could never put my finger on.
Good show, good flow, although Randy was a bit quiet, wasn’t he?
You guys should really do more Apes films. Escape from the Planet of the Apes would be a Filmsack gem!
So what kind of out-of-solar-system space expedition doesn’t wake up the captain when they approach planetary orbit?
Another great episode! I for one very much appreciated that you knocked around the film with a loving touch–I think that “Planet of the Apes” is an essential classic, despite all its flaws (such as how the movie spends 30 minutes+ with them farting around the desert and having naked swims).
This weekend I saw “Dirty Harry” for the first time, and I actually was struck by how similar Taylor and Harry are–not admirable leading men, but also not quite unlikable either. I wonder if it was some national malaise that would be symbolized by Watergate (which if course happened after both films).
By the way, I hope you guys go (relatively) easy on Howard the Duck for the next show. I was probably 8 or 9 when I first saw it, and for all its absolutely stupid parts it holds a special place in my heart. “Circular Italian food objects,” anyone?
Have to admit, I wasn’t expecting this classic to show up on the film sack list. It’s good to actually have a very popular movie once in a while in the midst of all the obscure ones.
Was a good, entertaining episode. Just have to mention that the Film Sack Checklist has been falling on its face for the movies before 1980. My boobie collection has also been scant as of late.
Aslo, I think you’ve mentioned it before, but you guys need to do Soylent Green some time.
Oh and by the way Scott Don’t know if you just missed this one, but its perfect for film sack, “Mega Shark Vs. Giant Squid” think about it….

Anyone else thought the score sounded a lot like The Twilight Zone? That dischordant sound. Just wondered if Rod Serling had any influence.
I admit, Chuck wasn’t likable. I’ve never watched any of his films I realize (this is the first one), but I find it perfect for Taylor.

Guys, Filmsack is awesome, this one and Excaliber have been my favorites. I think you need to do a “John Carpenter Arc” of “Escape From New York”, “The Thing” and “Big Trouble in Little China”
