As usual, a HUGE thanks to Scott Fletcher, the official announcer of Film Sack Central.
Hey! Why not leave us a nice review on iTunes if you like the show?
Up next episode? Killer Klowns from Outer Space!
Jurgen Prochnow (sorry if spelt wrong) you missed out one of his most famous roles, the captain in Das Boot. Love the show, keep up the good work.
Yea! my favorite movie and book – Dune, despite the film’s flaws, I saw it when I was 10 and fell in love with it. I’m halfway through the podcast and I have yet to hear about Alicia Witt, the little girl – creeeeepy. thanks guys. oh, and give the book a chance.
The book defined science fiction for decades to come. Without it you’d have no Star Trek (as far as the space travel aspects) and other science fiction classics.
Muad’Dib!!! means “desert mouse”, according to the book
Loved the book. I recommend NOT reading the prequels by the son. It’s pretty sickening. the politics are lame and uninspired, while the original was complex and thought provoking…just all around crap, not even fit for fiction.
If you want a film with someone peeing I would reccomend the David Bowie film The man who fell to earth. It is long time since I saw it but I suspect it would make ideal viewing for Film Sack

You got to see this and lol
I’m sorry, but as a big fan of this podcast, I had to say something.
I’m just sitting here, minding my own business, when I see at the bottom of page that you guys will be doing Killer Klowns from Outer Space next week.
I must have died in my sleep, because that is going to be like heaven. I can’t wait.
Oh, and Dune was aight I guess. Okay, it was awesome.
I got so absurdly excited when he said “If we walk without rhythm, we won’t attract the worm.” Suddenly that line from the Fatboy Slim song I’ve heard a thousand times made SENSE! I ran downstairs to inform my boyfriend, who has read the Dune books and seen the film long ago but doesn’t listen to Fatboy Slim. He was mystified and amused. Thanks for mentioning that bit, Ibbott.
I was a bit disappointed in this show. I am not saying it subtracted from your format or excellent concept and humor. Its just I think David Lynch is a genius. In the same way Picasso or Miro is. He is not for everyone that is true. Dune is actually one of my favorite movies because as disjointed as it is, it has elements that no other movie seems to have. FOR YOU SEE, HE IS THE KWIZATS HADARACH!!!!
Film Sack Suggestion!
The 1990 Captain America is on Hulu right now.
It’s…special.
Loved this episode. But there were two more star trek connections not mentioned (this movie was full of them). Both
Brad Dourif and Virginia Madsen both graced Voyager.
Can’t wait for next weeks episode.
I have just folded space.
Alicia Witt re-appears in David Lynch’s Twin Peaks.
I thought I had read that Dune and Blue Velvet were a two picture deal between Delarentis and Lynch. Now I can’t find anything to support that. Oh well.
I love watching this movie. The production values are great.
Surprised you didn’t mention the curtain call credits at the end.
You almost got there, but didn’t quite make it to my favorite bit of Dune trivia – Paul’s creepy sister Alia grew up to be Cybill Shepherd’s incredibly hot daughter “Zoey” on the “Cybill” show in the 90′s.
I have to admit that when I watched this a few years ago when the director’s cut DVD came out, it wasn’t as good as I remembered. Although I’ll have to say that the “weirding modules” work in the movie, even if they aren’t in the book… Hard to imagine someone bringing a knife to a gun fight.
My favorite thing about the movie is the whispering in their heads thing. It’s totally how the book reads.
I hate you guys for making me watch that crappy movie. Seriously…biggest waste of my life. You’re telling me that about a decade after Star Wars they can’t get better FX? Better writing? Better acting?
Scott and company,
I usually find that you guys have impeccable taste, but to refer to David Lynch as John Waters with a budget is far too high praise for John Waters. John Waters has no cinematic aptitude whatsoever, he just lines up a bunch of freaks and presses record. And when his films went “legit” (Hairspray on) he became a bore. At least, someone needs to admit that BLUE VELVET is an amazing film, no? There was no mention of it whatsoever. Lynch may get indulgent and incoherent much of the time, but there’s certainly some visual splendor to be found in all of his work (plus some hot lesbianism in Mullholland Drive). As the old saying goes, give credit where lesbians are due. Or something to that effect…
If you can get hold of it there is a George Guidall narrated version of Dune. Very very good
Not to be a Lynch fanboy/apologist but … Mulholland Drive (SPOILER ALERT IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN IT) gave me one of the most satisfying cinematic experiences of the last decade. At the theater I wasn’t quite sure what I had just seen – but on the drive home I got to thinking about it and when I came up with the idea that the first 2/3rds of the movie is just one elaborate masturbation fantasy concocted by the Naomi Watts character, 90% of it all clicked into place and my mind was thoroughly blown.
Also, listening to this episode makes me want to go back and re-read Dune – I read it when I was 13 or something and I’m sure I’d get more out of it now that I’m 40.
I genuinely like your innovative angle that you have on the topic. Certainly wasn’t planning on this at the time I begun browsing for tips. Your ideas were totally simple to understand, so I pondered precisely why I hardly investigated at this in the past. Happy to find out that there’s an individual online that obviously understands exactly what she is talking about. Exceptional piece of work
so i was watching the blu ray of this the other day and noticed that Micheal “When a Man Loves a FREAKING Woman” Bolton is in this movie. He’s one of the Fremen drummers at the end of the movie. Also having read all of the dune novels over the years, i say this movie sucks hardcore. The sci fi channel mini series in 2000 was much better
