As usual, a HUGE thanks to Scott Fletcher, the official announcer of Film Sack Central.
Hey! Why not leave us a nice review on iTunes if you like the show?
Up next episode? Another bonus sack! This time, for Speed.
I loved this movie when I rented it in 04 and still love this movie. My favorite quote
Elvis: That’s it? That’s the chant against evil from the “Book of Souls”? Oh yeah, right, boss. And what kind of decoder ring comes with that, man? Shit, it don’t even rhyme well!
I believe Randy has a personal vendetta against Bruce Campbell. I suggest you bury the hatchet sir.
Alright, it’s long and convoluted, but here’s how it connects to Star Trek… Daniel Roebuck (the one from Lost, who took out bodies) was in the newer Halloween II with Tyler Mane (as Michael Myers), who was Sabertooth in X-Men… I’m sure you guys can get it from there. At least it’s less than six degrees.
OK, how about this idea Scott: God has required that those blessed with outrageous fame (Elvis, Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson, etc) must die early and become ghost super-heroes defending the earth from alien invasions. (Hey, that would be a good comic.)
This is one of my favorite movies. On the DVD extras, Campbell said that they brought in an Elvis impersonator to help him. After a few minutes, the guy told Bruce to just do it his way because he couldn’t help him.
Ok, I really tried to like this movie, and to be perfectly fair, I turned it off after 10 minutes. I sat down to watch the movie last week after it was announced it would be the next Film Sack film, only now on listening to the show do I think I can possibly get through this thing.
I love Bruce Campbell, but even he was not enough to keep me going past the first 10 minutes.
There are only two ways I can see myself finishing this thing: 1) Getting COMPLETELY smashed; 2) Forcing someone to sit down with me and watch it.
Was I to force my wife to watch this film, the living room couch would be my bed until Christmas… please take note of the date that I am posting this. Yes.
But, I assure you, for my love of Film Sack I will watch this movie through the end credits… I just need a LOT of beer and a friend to watch it with me who will also need a tremendous amount of beer.
My “weird movie friend” and I saw Bubba Ho-tep when it was in theaters, out of mutual love for Bruce Campbell. We both came out of it saying “Hmm, well, that was….huh. Umm.” I couldn’t bring myself to watch it again for Film Sack, but thanks to you guys for taking one for the team. Or rather, the show.
As Chloe’ mentioned above, Daniel Roebuck is your connection, but he is a direct connection as he played one of Spock’s followers on the TNG episodes “Unification” and “Unification, part 2″
Here is his IMDB page: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0736263/
Search for “Pete Vallee Big Elvis” on YouTube and you will find a literal treasure trove. Amazing stuff. Despite his 400 pound plus size he sounds as close to Elvis as any impersonator ever has. I can’t find one where he’s on a scooter, but his singing is so close to the real Elvis it’ll send chills down your spine. Amazing voice, and yes he is still alive.
Pete’s personal page is here: http://www.bigelvis.biz/
An article from the Los Angles Times that Pete links to in his “Media Alert” section claims that at one time Pete weighed apx 945 lbs. He lost over 500 lbs since and now weighs apx 425 lbs. http://travel.latimes.com/articles/la-tr-vegas13-2009sep13
Answer the damn phone!
hey if people want to watch this movie you can see it at http://stagevu.com someone has it posted there
When I was younger my brother, grandfather and I would get together and watch horrid movies like this one. We’d laugh and mock our way through each ‘gem’ we would rent. As my brother and I grew up and moved away this tradition started to fade away but we revived it for this movie.
We had a great time with it and found a little gem on the DVD. There’s a commentary track in which Bruce Campbell reprises his roll as The King. The track is hilarious and I highly recommend checking it out if you get the chance.
Oh, Tovias, you’re good.
Hooray, the first Film Sack where I actually own a copy of the movie!
I remember when I first heard about this movie, it would be an absolute farce comedy. Thus I was really stricken by how serious it dealt with the subject matter. I still don’t consider the movie a comedy at all – I love the movie for sure, but it rarely makes me laugh (except for the more campy scenes that the Film Sack crew mentioned). For me it’s more of a drama-thriller, and I really feel for Elvis in it.
This week’s movie is Young Einstein, by the way….not Speed again.
Scott mentioned Alien 4.
I know the point of the podcast is to review/talk about films of dubious quality, but I’d like to hear the film sack crew’s thoughts on how Alien holds up. The movie is freakin’ OLD, and it features computers and other tech.
Make if a double feature and compare Alien to Aliens. Ridley Scott vs. James Cameron!
Later you can move on to 4.
Just found out about the podcast. Diamond in the fucking rough.
BTW, the Mortal Kombat link doesn’t work for me. Is it just on my end?
Finally got to listen to the whole thing – great fun, I’m sure I’ll enjoy the movie as well! Oh, and I did take one drink, though you guys tried hard to avoid the T-word.

Sublime. As previously mentioned, the films deals with the heavy by making farce of the light. But the true beauty lies in its ability to have you truly believe the, supposedly, unbelievable.
Thematically, it deals with death, the destruction of family unit, the disenfranchisement of the elderly in modern society and the realities of the government and entertainment industry, all whilst making jokes about “ass-eaters”. This is no mean feet.
I have a degree in Cinema, and currently work as a filmmaker, and writing something that is both light-hearted but has some resonances is the hallmark of any writer worth his or her salt.
Thanks lads for bringing this little gem to my attention. Continue the good work.
enjoyed this writing!
I’m a few episodes behind, and just got to listen to this one yesterday. Good episode!
I have another Star Trek connection than the ones listed above. And, as a bonus, it involves me! No, I’m not the connection, just a tangent to it.
Bruce Campbell was in a low-budget sci-fi film called “Menno’s Mind” (his was a very, very brief role; basically a cameo). The film also starred Michael Dorn. I was the prop master on this film.
Ta da!
Now that is pretty cool. I couldn’t help but note plot spoilers included ‘Fighting Woman’, Guillotine’, ‘Internet Domain in Title’ and ‘Kick in the Balls’.
