Special thanks to Audible.com this week for sponsoring the show. And a special thanks to USDish! As usual, a HUGE thanks to Scott Fletcher, the official announcer of Film Sack Central. Hey! Why not leave us a nice review on iTunes if you like the show?
Up next week? The Golden Child!
I recently heard something where they were talking about Ghostbusters 3 and it was said that Bill Murray wouldn’t do the movie unless they did a few things.
1) His character has to die in the opening and he will be a ghost the rest of the movie.
2) They admit to the baby being his son.
Could be rumors, but i remember the source being kinda credible.
Even in the promo shot, Ernie Hudson is standing alone…poor guy.
Didn’t remember until hearing Peter MacNicols’ bizarre accent that I had actually seen this movie before. Apparently I’d banished it from my consciousness somehow, and for good reason. Things started out promising but very quickly went downhill like a baby carriage ignored by Sigourney Weaver and almost hit by the bus from Speed.
If New York judges routinely blow their tops and threaten to burn people at the stake for causing power outages, it’s no wonder an Undercity of angry pink goo formed beneath it. That is, however, no reason for dancing toasters.
I really like to pretend that this movie doesn”t exist…a rushed cash grab.
I watched both the Ghostbuster movies a few months ago with my 9 year old daughter. She enjoyed them both and reminded me of how I first saw them (though I was much older than 9). Entertaining, but they have not held up as well as I hoped. But, certainly fun to watch with the kids and eat some popcorn.
And, can you ever get enough of Siguorney Weaver?
I gotta say this movie didn’t hold up as well as I had expected…I somehow remembered it being so much better. I agree with you guys – the timing was just off. It’s like nobody really wanted to be there and had a sort of attitude of ‘ok let’s get this crap over with’. The plot just meanders and the ending just seems..forced and bland.
You must narfle the garthok! I agree, The Coneheads tops the list of SNL movies.
I’ll defend this movie only to speak up for the slime. It bothered me at first; ectoplasm wasn’t pink! But this is negatively charged and therefore looks different. This is a story arc they carry through the Ghostbusters video game. Also, seeing the respective careers they find themselves in after busting: Peter is the showman, Egon is a researcher, Ray owns an occult bookstore and works parttime at kids’ birthday parties. Now for the bashing: like many movies during the late 80s and early 90s (not to mention the mindset change as our comedic actors/writers age) the thinly veiled moral was more important than a good story. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we need to be nice to one another. That does not make an interesting, COMEDIC film.
No one has ever mentioned it and being that Scott and Dunaway do a podcast called Final Score I am surprised no one has played the Ghostbusters video game. It is supposed to utilize the actual Ghostbusters 3 script and does its best to tie together the films. I found it much more interesting, story-wise than 2. You self proclaimed Ghostbuster and video game fans, you disappoint me.
Winston is on the back burner in these movies for two reasons: 1. He wasn’t known like the Big 3, and 2. He’s just hired help. He’s just working for a paycheck. For that, I can see that he’s the one that freezes on the train track. Ray and Egon has spent years studying and experiencing the parnormal. He’s the “normal” guy we are to relate to. That said, I hope he does have another job besides the birthday parties. Another case of no one caring about the character (even Ernie Hudson: his performance in the first and the video game much better than this).
As far as Dan Ackroyd sequels go, this one is much more favorable than Blues Brothers 2000 (again, Ackroyd wrote a “meaningful” script that talked of importance of family and destroyed all we knew about Jake and Elwood)
i could never tell if they were trying to be too silly and failed, or if they were trying to be too serious and failed. But now that you guys have given it a really full and fair treatment, I know that it was just plain lame.
I definitely enjoyed parts of the movie but the assembly failed.
Nothing But Trouble is on Netflix streaming….just sayin’.
Where ever someone talks about Dan Aykroyd, I think of 2 bits fo trivia about him. He was also born with heterochromia (a condition of having two differently coloured eyes). His right eye is green and his left eye is brown. Aykroyd was born with syndactyly (webbed toes). Bowie has the eye thing (famously) and Ashton Kutcher has the toes thing.
Saidow again, or Seedow or however you guys pronounce it.
Everytime he’s (Max Von Sydow that is) in a Sacked movie I want to send in a soundbite to you with the proper pronounciation – but keep thinking that he won’t show up again, but I doubt the amount if sackable movies that he has been in!
Anywhoo – Sydow. How to explain how to pronounce the Y… kinda like the u in ‘cure’. Its the closest I can find anyway, it doesn’t seem to be a sound that you guys (ie english-speakers) have. A shame.
Hey just so the know “Ghostbusters: The Animated Series” was made in 1986 and there saw a live action show it was based of from the 70′s. And this show has nothing to do with the Movie. But the best things is Seasons (series for the UK folk) 1 and 2 is streaming on netflix so give it a look.
The Filmation Ghostbusters Cartoon was awesome! You should check it out. It was really good. I bought the DVDs a few years ago.

Bilko is an excellent TV show from the 50s with the inimitable Phil Silvers. Steve Martin starred in an above-average film version.
I enjoyed this episode (as always) but I actually really like Ghostbusters 2. I’ll agree it wasn’t as good as part 1, but it had a definite charm to it.
I was surprised you didn’t play my favorite line in the movie when Dude-What-Was-In Ally McBeal gets up after being hosed with slime and says, “Why am I dripping with goo?”
Dunno why but that line makes me laugh a lot…mostly because I have the sense of humor of a 12 year old.
Hey guys love the show but I wanted to report that both the mp3 and iTunes links are broken for the Ghostbusters 2 podcast. Keep sacking the cheesiest movies out there! Thanks.
