  2. There is absolutely supposed to be more space after a period than between words, BUT if you’re using a proportional font like Times New Roman, the computer will automatically make the space after a period wider than those between words. You only have to manually type two spaces if you’re using a fixed-width font like Courier where “i” and “m” take up the same amount of horizontal space.

That being said, publishers traditionally require submissions to be in Courier, so if you write professionally you may still have to do it.

  3. I was told in high school that the need for two spaces after the period was unnecessary because Word and other word processing programs provided the space for you. In graduate school, I had to start formatting all my papers in APA style for my courses and in their guidelines they suggest:
Spacing (4.01). Regarding punctuation in manuscript drafts, APA suggests using two spaces after periods ending sentences to aid readability.
I believe this was updated last in 2009 and assumes you’re typing with a computer.

Perhaps we should travel back in time and ask nerdy Stevie King whether he types with two spaces…

  4. For those not watching this on Netflix, this is episode 5 of season 3. Netflix is missing episodes.

Quantum Leap is one of my all time favourite shows 🙂
