  2. Nice side discussion on sports movies! I have zero interest in real life boxing (and most sports), but I really like boxing movies. Rocky movies are my favorite sports movies, but The Karate Kid is also great.

As for more recent movies, I really liked Moneyball. I also remember enjoying Fever Pitch (Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore).

  3. For horse movies, The Man from Snowy River is high on my list (my mom is 78 and it is one of the last movies I can remember her watching in the theater). It sounds strange, but I remember a good one from Disney about a girl that did stunt diving on a horse – Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken.

For Cowboy movies (that aren’t really horse movies), I really like Lonesome Dove and Open Range.

  4. Only Redford movie I really enjoyed was Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Never was a big fan of him. I refuse to watch anything with Jane Fonda.

As for sport movies, I thought Jerry McGuire was a brilliant way to get guys to willingly go to see a chick flick and its not a bad movie at all. Its far heavier on the sport than it is with the sappy love stuff. The first two Rocky movies were the best and then they reached the ‘meh’ stage.

      • I can see that about Rocky 2 although I thought it was a great follow up to the original which, if I am not mistaken. I know I saw some trivia where the studio wanted Redford in the lead role. Honestly the problem with 2 is that it created the formula where Rocky has a ‘crisis of self’ and it starts with Adrian having complications from pregnancy, 3 he is giving up after Mick dies and Clubber destroys him in the ring and then again with 4 when Apollo is killed by Drago and he struggles again and has to go train like a barbarian. I gave up after that. But yeah, 3 is fun but it seemed to lose the seriousness the first 2 had.

        • I guess it also didn’t help that I had the DVD for 3 in my hand and a friend talked me into buying two instead, which wasn’t what I was looking for.

  5. That’s funny, because I don’t watch sports, but I love a movie like Miracle, Invincible, Remember the Titans, Pride, etc.

I didn’t love Dream catcher, I cant wait to hear you guys talk about it. Its perfect for filmsack I think.
